Captain’s Quarters
A fun and new creative program this summer from the Legacy of the Lakes Museum. Captain’s Quarters will take place Wednesdays* through August in the BoatHouse from 10 am-11 am. This craft and hands-on learning filled hour is perfect for pre-school to second grade aged children and is free, with no registration required! *There will be no Captain’s Quarters on June 24, July 1, July 15, and July 22.

Painting in the Garden
Let your creativity come to life in the beautiful Legacy Gardens at the Legacy of the Lakes Museum. Kids can take inspiration from the beautiful plantings, trees, and water and create thier very own masterpiece. Kids will be working with acrylic paints, so please wear appropriate clothing. Several of the artists from our 2026 Paddle Art Contest have generously donated their paddles to a fundraising auction benefiting the Legacy of the Lakes Museum (Thank you artists!). Come to the museum on Halloween for a unique and completely free trick-or-treat experience. Kids in costume travel from boat to boat inside the museum, collecting candy from costumed volunteers. Part of the Downtown Alexandria Halloween Event!
