Water Talks: Alexandria Nature Trail

September 19, 2022 @ 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Central-Lakes-State-Trail-4
Join us Monday, September 19th at the Legacy of the Lakes BoatHouse as Tim Schoonhoven and Todd Holman present on the Alexandria Nature Trail. He is lead engineer working with the Nature Conservancy to preserve and protect a corridor from I-94 to Lake Le’ Homme Dieu. The trail will provide for water runoff management as well as provide for public use of a nature trail. The project would also preserve valuable wetlands that act as natural filters and sponges that cleans and slows down water during storms.
Tim Schoonhoven is civil engineer and Vice President with Widseth in Alexandria. He has served as the Alexandria City Engineer since 1994 and has worked on dozens of projects to improve water quality in the community. Much of this work goes through the City’s Stormwater Management Committee.

Todd Holman is the Mississippi Headwaters Program Director for the MN-ND-SD Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, office in Brainerd.  Todd coordinates the Camp Ripley Sentinel Landscape program, facilitates the North Central Conservation Roundtable consortium, and has developed conservation protection programs in the upper Mississippi headwaters region.  Holman helped develop and launch the Mississippi Headwaters Board (eight county joint powers) protection program for the upper 400-miles of the Mississippi River headwaters.

Prior to the Conservancy, Holman worked several years directing land use planning in two counties and was the community development director for the City of Baxter.  Todd has been on the Board of Water and Soil Resources, the Environmental Initiative board, and served on the Baxter city council.

This talk is free and open to the public. Thank you to our event partners, Douglas County Lakes Association.
